The fight to legalize marijuanaMarijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant ingredient is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to by the abbreviated form THC. This drug should not be legalized because it would lead to the use of harsh drugs, increase obesity and affect the heart, lungs and brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons why marijuana should not be decriminalized. Some legal reasons why marijuana should not be decriminalized are that it would lead to experimenting with harder drugs like heroin and cocaine. It will also increase crime and traffic accidents because it would be more difficult to determine whether a person is driving under the influence unless the user is smoking in the car. Allowing drugs to be legal will demonstrate to children that drug use is acceptable. If marijuana were allowed, it would be included in the list of drugs that cause significant problems. For example, alcohol is involved in about a quarter of all emergency room admissions, a third of all suicides, and more than half of all homicides and domestic violence incidents. Cermak, Timmen L.
