Advantages and Disadvantages of TV Television and technology have grown tremendously over the years; therefore, TV models have improved over the years. John L. Baird was the first person to invent television on September 7, 1927. He was a famous Scottish scientist; he demonstrated his invention at the Royal Institute of Great Britain in 1926. It was not fully developed until the late 1940s. The invention of the TV had a huge effect on many Americans. Soon after the invention of television, not many Americans had one because they were expensive and couldn't afford one. The number of televisions sold increased in 1929, Bard sold several hundred televisions because only the rich could afford one. By the end of the 1990s, 98% of U.S. homes had one per dwelling, and they spent more than seven hours a day on average. The invention of television can be a boon or a detriment to Americans because there are some good educational programs and some that are not. For example, Discovery, History, Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) channels are some good educational programs because they help us understand and have knowledge about the world. However, there are some programs that are not suitable for children and adults: The Jersey Shore, 16&Pregant, The Real World, Jesses and Hannah Montanna. Many shows contain a lot of violence and affect young children more. Lawrence states, “Television can affect learning and academic performance if it reduces children's time for activities crucial to healthy mental and physical development.” TV can be an advantage and a disadvantage because it is a distraction, a learning tool, an economic advantage. Although TV is extremely beneficial, it is a disadvantage, as it promotes distraction. For many kids it is difficult to avoid television... in the middle of paper... in stations to be cameramen, to do editing. You need local people to be the actors, the technicians, things like that, so TV is not an industry where you can export jobs and it's an industry where basically a lot of jobs are provided to local people . With the invention of television, many jobs have opened up for those individuals who possess certain qualities needed to appear on television. Those qualities that people should have: intelligence, talent, beauty, leadership, quality and energy. Also, television is a good asset because it has created many jobs for many people and brought in a lot of money for its success.
