The United States Antebellum Period was a time before the Civil War; it included the years 1781 to 1860. This time period is known for the rise of abolition and the country's gradual polarization between abolitionists and pro-slavery supporters. This topic of slavery was made taboo in the chambers of government because Congress could not reach agreement on the topic. The North and South were unique from each other in many things, such as the main point regarding slavery. Although they had a fair amount of similarities with each other, it is still reasonable to conclude that by around 1860 they had developed into two separate and distinct societies. There are many differences between Antebellum America North and Antebellum America South. Some of the main differences are in agricultural style, social classes, industry, transportation, cities, and views of slavery.
