Fiction EssayFiction stories are those stories that are not true or real and are created by the author. These stories are imagined by the author and told to the reader. The reader has the opportunity to add their own imagination to the story to make reading even more enjoyable. Fiction relies on the author's imagination and the reader's imagination along with the elements of fiction. Fiction readings are in the form of realistic and non-realistic. When talking about these two types of fiction reading, two stories come to mind. The realistic story that comes to mind is the “A&P” story by John Updike. John Updike is “…considered one of the best American writers of fiction and poetry” and his tale of “A & P” proves to be an ideal example of fiction (V., and Zweig 370). The unrealistic story is "The Fox and the Grapes", found in Aesop's Fables. Both of these narratives contain elements of fiction that are easily identifiable and therefore fun to discuss. Characters and point of view are two of the fictional elements present in these two stories. Discussion of these two elements expands knowledge of fictional stories through examples and definitions. Characters are people, animals, or things found in the literary work and are an element of fiction. There are different types of characters such as the protagonist, who is the main character, and the antagonist, who opposes the main character ("The Elements of Fiction"). The point of view element of fictional stories is that perspective in which a story is told. The point of view is that of the person telling the story and the method by which the reader knows what is happening ("The Elements of Fiction").
