The First World War or “Great War”, as it was commonly called before the Second World War, was started mainly by three reasons. These three reasons made the outbreak of war inevitable. There were many tensions between many countries, but there were more than just allies and rivalries between European countries. There was an initial spark for what started the war, but World War I began primarily because of militarism, nationalism, and imperialism.
