France joins the G8 group which includes the most industrialized countries in the world. In the Fortune Global 500 ranking which classifies countries based on turnover, France ranks first in Europe and fourth in the world. The French economy is the fifth most expansive in the world and the second most expansive among European countries. France implements the system of a mixed economy that combines private enterprise with a large amount of state intervention and government enterprises. Political Environment - France operates as a unitary republic with particularly pronounced roots in democracy. The French executive branch consists of the Prime Minister, Farcois Fillon; and President Nicolas Sarkozy. The French parliament operates under the Senate and the National Assembly. The two most important political groups in France are the left, which aligns with the French Socialist Party, and the right, which aligns with the Union for a Popular Movement. Currently the French government is more associated with the right due to Nicolas Sarkozy's political affiliations. Weather: Most of France is dominated by a temperate climate in the northern areas which require a moderate climate all year round. Southern France has a more Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and moderately cool, mostly wet winters. In the Alps, France has a mountainous climate with most of the time very cold and snow can be present for more than six months.
