IntroductionThe National Quality Standard and Framework exists to ensure that school-age children have the opportunity to engage in needs-responsive recreational and play experiences, to the interests and choices of the children who attend the service and who contribute to their ongoing development (Guide to the National Quality Standard, 2011). In this article we will conduct an analysis on a video entitled NQS Environment Makeover. The National Quality Standard and Framework will be used as a guide in analyzing the video. The national quality guide outlines seven areas for service improvement. The areas identified are; educational program and practice; children's health and safety; physical environment; provisions relating to personnel; relationships with children; collaborative partnerships with families and communities and leadership and management of services. (Guide to the National Quality Framework, 2013). The analysis will include a summary of the video, an evaluation, a critical evaluation, outlining the approach used and, finally, determining the extent to which the kindergarten has initiated changes in the environment. The video documents the development and implementation of a quality improvement plan that places its primary focus on the physical environment. The video illustrates the initial stages of planning and formulating collaborative ideas between the director and staff of the Campbell Street Childcare and Early Education Center in Queanbeyan, NSW, together with the assistance of two ECA Early Childhood Consultants. The video highlights the need for drastic changes to the physical environment which will help immensely in improving all seven areas identified in the National Quality Standards.
