In this essay I will analyze my contribution to the research project on Commedia dell'Arte, with specific reference to music hall. Music hall performances developed in saloons and public houses during the 1830s. The audience was expected to eat, drink and chat during the show. Their participation was also encouraged, even if it meant insulting or throwing objects at the artists. This has created a chaotic and vibrant new style of entertainment, renowned for its inclusive atmosphere. The Music Hall's popularity and reputation exploded, and by 1850 many public houses were demolished to make way for purpose-built Music Hall theatres, such as the 700-seat "Canterbury Theatre" in London. Built by Charles Morton, it was considered the "father of music halls". The halls offered the opportunity for anyone with talent to earn a decent living on stage. In particular they were considered a rare source of empowerment for working-class women, allowing some of them to pursue independent careers. In this way Music Hall and comedy shared many values, allowing both sexes equal opportunities on stage and being dominated by working-class traditions. In preparation for our presentation, there was one key point that we felt was crucial to convey to our audience: the connections between Commedia dell'Arte and Music Hall. We divided the smaller points that needed to be covered and did the research individually. When we got together, we focused on the best possible way to present our presentation, making it clear and informative but without losing the interest of our audience. We came up with the idea of ​​giving our presentation in the form of a Music Hall show. The motivation behind all of this was to keep our audit… at the heart of the paper… in full swing. Of course we would make sure there were “catchy” phrases that they could never get out of their heads! I found this presentation stimulating and exciting, a perfect duo. I faced some individual difficulties, but the fact that I was able to overcome them is the most important thing. If we had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change anything about what we researched or what connections we made, I would just add something. If setup and presentation times weren't an issue, it would have been great to set up the area like an old Music Hall theater, serve pub food and drinks, put on variety shows and basically try to create an atmosphere identical to how it is it was . However, I learned a great deal about Commedia dell'Arte and Music Hall in the short time we had, and I will carry my findings and observations forward when I pursue anything to do with them.
