Video n. 1: Multiple Personality Disorder The first video aims to discuss questions related to multiple personality disorder. The documentary begins with a brief historical context of the disease. Starting in the Middle Ages, the religious community described the state in which a human being was possessed by evil forces, a condition that in modern psychiatry is called multiple personality disorder. In the early 20th century, study on this topic led psychologists to assume that a person may have multiple separately functioning personalities. This condition was recognized as a mental disorder called hysteria. At the beginning of this documentary, several important questions are asked regarding the origin of this disease and the impact it has on the patient. This introductory part invites the audience to explore multiple personality disorder and try to find answers to these questions. The investigation into multiple personality disorder begins with the case of a woman named Gretchen, who suffers from this disease. The audience is introduced to the story of Gretchen's illness and its consequences that significantly affect her life. There are advantages and disadvantages to Gretchen's condition. For example, when a woman is in distress, she transitions to a stronger personality that is able to deal with the difficulties that caused the distress. However, Gretchen doesn't know what happens to her when she switches from one multiple personality to another. Such confusion causes panic attacks and frustration. Each of Gretchen's personalities has different handwriting and because of this, Gretchen is rarely able to recognize her handwriting when she returns to normal. Some of Gretchen's personalities...... middle of paper...... the reasons for patients' concerns are hidden deep within their personalities. In the second part of the video we see the parents of children with eating disorders in the therapy session in the group. It is important that this documentary shows the audience how difficult it can be for family and friends to watch as their loved ones suffer and die from the eating disorder and are unable to help them. The video ends with a talk show in which we meet some of the heroines of the documentary a year after its production. We meet Marya and Annie and find that they have improved, have managed to overcome depression and have begun to experience a wider range of emotions which helps them cope with eating disorders. Marya talks about her book that she wrote when she was 21 and how it affected her life and the influence she had on other people suffering from eating disorders.
