“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to secure a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” These are the words of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. These words were written by the man who laid the foundation of our government today. As a constitutional right, our government does not have the right to deprive us of the right to carry illegally. The government may have good intentions this way, but will this really help or will it just create more problems? Before Hitler came to power in Germany, the government required a registration of all citizens who owned and carried weapons. When Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power in 1933, they used that registration list to identify, disarm, and attack political enemies and Jews. The Constitution states: “That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it.” As unarmed citizens, how could we fight a corrupt government or police brutality?
