In today's world there is a lot of debate among families who spend time trying to research what the best possible options are for the healthcare of their children and spouses. An often asked question is whether seeing a nurse practitioner is as effective and safe as seeing a doctor. Many parents worry about whether their child will get all the attention they need when they see a professional nurse. Professional nurses have the training and time to provide children and their families with the support and care needed (My child should see an NP 2). A nurse practitioner is a professional nurse who is highly educated and has undergone clinical training in his or her healthcare specialty areas (Pediatrician v NP 1). To practice, they must have four to six years of training and pass all licensing exams to practice (Quality of Care 1). In order for students to become a qualified nurse, they must complete additional master's level training in addition to the classes prepared for the baccalaureate degree (Duties and Responsibilities 1). In order for someone to prepare to enter the nursing field, a high school student would need to take challenging English, math, and science classes (duties and responsibilities 1). Many nurses work side-by-side with a licensed physician, but this is not always the case. His career as a professional nurse began in the 1960s (Pediatrician v NP 1). There was a huge shortage of doctors and I needed care for the underserved (Pediatrician v NP 1). Nurse practitioners work primarily in rural and urban settings such as public health departments, community health centers, hospitals, doctor's offices, nursing homes, HMOs, student health clinics, and home health agencies. If necessary, your nurse can provide you with prescription pharmacological agents and treatments. They may also provide non-drug therapies (NP Services 1). While nurse practitioners are a great idea in many cases, it is still very important to have a regular doctor that you can consult in certain situations. Nurse Practitioners are a great alternative for routine checkups and minor visits when it is sometimes difficult to see your doctor. You can rest assured that with a professional nurse you will be cared for while receiving a warm and welcoming visit every time.
