When Rosemary meets Earl Brady it is stated that he "desired her" and that "as far as his virginal emotions were concerned, he contemplated an equanimity of surrender" even though he knew "her she would have forgotten him half an hour after leaving him” (24).These types of feelings are a recurring emotion for Rosemary throughout the novel.She often indulges in things with Dick that are not respectable among married couples of “seducing [a patient's] daughter” (187). Dick denies this accusation but we have reason to believe that he would have commissioned something like this because of his actions with Rosemary. It is also said that Dick “was in love with every beauty woman he was seeing now” (201). It is described that Nicole “was a little shocked to be interested in another man,” but says that “other women have lovers,” so why can't she do it (276). ).This shows that many people of this period were interested in and even carried on business. It is also stated bluntly that Nicole "didn't want any vague spiritual romance: she wanted a relationship" (291) and "even felt the warmth of his lips in the receiver as she welcomed [Tommy's] arrival" (290) .
