What are smart cities? There is no clear definition of a smart city. Smart cities bring with them the vision that an urban space is well-planned and structured, technologically sound and environmentally friendly. It should evolve as technology advances. It should be highly integrated with the latest technologies that help make people livable, workable and sustainable. What's smart about them? According to the smart city council, all data is collected via censors and processed in the central database to make the city as efficient as possible. All electricity, water, gas, traffic and other government analysis data are stored in a central repository to efficiently utilize all available resources. Helps maintain optimal demand. According to Mckinsey Global Institute report, India's population is expected to increase from 34 million in 2008 to 59 million in 2030. These studies also predict that these smart cities will generate 70% of new jobs by 2030. produce more than 70% of India's GDP and contribute to a 4-fold increase in per capita. Will new cities be built? In the budget speech Arun Jaitley said, “Unless new cities are developed to accommodate the growing number of people, existing cities will soon become unlivable.” He also said that the allocation of Rs 7060 crore would not all go towards setting up brand new cities. Instead, the goal is to build satellite cities near existing urban areas on the smart city model, upgrading existing medium-sized cities and building settlements along industrial corridors. Dholera Special Investment Region Once again Gujrat will act ahead of its time. Once again he will create history. The Special Investment Region (SIR) will be created. This will reshape the industrial and economic face of India. It will establish the Dholera Special Investment Region. This very first SIR showcases the global vision and big dream of our Prime Minister Narendra. This building will be a masterpiece of art and design. It will be an iconic structure and will bear the imprint of Gujrat's enterprising spirit. The Dholera SIR will have a reduced carbon footprint thanks to huge investments in harnessing solar and wind energy. The adjacent Kalpasar Dam will create a fresh water reservoir which will transform the area into a lush green landscape area. It is also proposed to develop the Black Buck Centaury and golf course as a tourist attraction. The central spine of Dholera SIR consists of 10-lane expressways. This will connect the SIR with Ahemdabad on one side and the airport, seaport on the other. The Dholera SIR will also be connected to Ahemdabad via the metro rail system. SIR will also be served by a world-class international airport and the area's major seaport. While the state government is committed to public investment in co-infrastructure, it is also open to private investment. The SIR will be governed by the new SIR Act, another first of its kind in India. The state government has already enacted the SIR Act. SIR is a self-governing economic region that sets a global benchmark. It has the full support of the central government and the state government. Has legislative support of the upcoming dedicated freight corridor between Delhi and
