What would it be like to live in a world where you have no say in what happens in your life? While The Color Purple doesn't directly ask questions, it does make its viewers begin to wonder what it would be like to live in the world Alice Walker creates with her novel. In this story the protagonist is Celie. She is a black woman who has never had a choice in her life. From an early age her father abused her and then sent her to marry a man she didn't know at all. Her father also impregnated her twice and both times forced her to give her children away. Mister was as violent as her father had been to her and she had never been given a choice. This begins to change when he meets people in the story like Shug and Sofia. Both Shug and Sofia are strong-willed women who don't let men control their lives because they have their own agendas and don't let people get in their way. One of the hardest things she has to face is that her sister Nettie leaves her because Mister kicked her out of the house. After this Celie is practically alone and doesn't hear from Celie for a long time because the Mister always gets the mail and doesn't let Celie go get the mail. Throughout the story we see how Celie is constantly closed off, but one day she finds the courage to assert herself and this is one of the turning points in the story. With a dramatic and powerful story like this, there are many scenes that impact viewers while watching the film. There are so many pivotal, story-changing moments that you almost have to watch it twice just to understand everything. In Alice Walker's The Color Purple my three favorite scenes are when Shug and Celie begin... in the middle of the paper... the beginning of a change in Celie. The last time Sofia stands up for herself in this novel is my favorite scene because it shows how powerful she was and even though it ends badly, Alice Walker teaches people something. . Being able to stay calm in certain situations is something that would be very difficult when faced with many of the situations that appear in this story because they deal with such deep issues. This is my favorite scene because it shows Sofia's strength. The best scene in The Color Purple is when Celie defends herself and leaves Mister. I love that she finally goes after what she wants and doesn't let anyone get in her way. He's been through so much that I'm happy he finally chose to get something good out of his life rather than just heartache and pain. That's why this is my favorite scene in the movie.
