PLANET EARTH Superstorm Sandy and Global Climate Change (GCC) Sarrah Won - 06/28/2014 Description of Hurricane Sandy and its effects on the surrounding environment and personal life. Together with an explanation and a debate on the topic of "Global Climate Change" and the possible actions to be taken to reduce its negative effects in our future. 2012 was a very "eventful" year for me in particular because it was the year this was conscientiously emphasized throughout my life and generation. It was the year I long awaited for many things: the year I graduated from high school; the year I start attending Rutgers University; the year of a possible re-election of an African-American president; and the year the world was supposed to end. It was all the talk of the town and since I was graduating, my friends and I called the year 2012 "our year"; There were simply too many events that my generation was more or less looking forward to. However, looking back, 2012 was not only the year of joy and freedom, but also the year of pain and wake-up calls. It was the year I couldn't celebrate Halloween; the year I realized how dependent we are on technology and how sad it was; the year that Hurricane Sandy kept us in the cold and dark for 9 long days and the year that Mother Nature reminded us of life without electricity, hope, peace and tranquility. Surprisingly, when the lights went out, so did our phones, tablets, TVs, and other electronic devices. It's a natural thing when there's no electricity, that the only thing keeping you away from your tech is battery life, but I never thought I'd be so "lost" without them. I think I can speak for many when I say that Hurricane Sandy was the longest and most terribly boring 9 days... middle of paper... and totally unattainable now, but if everyone in the Rutgers community in New York alone Brunswick have paid about a Happy Meals in money, then that money is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Sharing information about recycling and energy saving or even acting on it when you are with others, shows people not what could be done , but what should be done. Take the opportunities given to you and ask others to help protect your environment because without the first step there would be no change. http://climate.nasa.gov/evidence http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/ features/climate_by_any_other_name.htmlhttp://www.globalissues.org/article/233/climate-change-and-global -warming-introduction#WhatisGlobalWarmingandClimateChangehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming_controversyhttp://www.emissourian. com/opinion/editorials/article_c80aa9ba-d068-11e3-929d-001a4bcf887a.html
