Topic > A look at Nora's transformation from start to finish

Many human beings, especially women, are always looking for that special individual and will go to great lengths to get what they expect. Love is a crazy feeling where the heart leads the way and sometimes we can consider lovers as if under a spell. The brain has no words and common sense is lost against this so-called “feeling of love”. I will talk about the play “A Doll's House” by Ibsen and in particular the transformation that Nora undergoes during the play until she recognizes that she is not in love with Torvald. This play is set in a time when women were dependent on men most of the time and were unable to define themselves. The only duties given to a wife, like Nora, were to be a good housewife, take care of the children, and satisfy Torvald. Hence the name of the play “A Doll's House” in which Nora is depicted as a doll from the beginning to the point where she discovers the real world she lives in and decides to escape. Nora Helmer, a beautiful woman who has dedicated her last years to being the perfect housewife and an admirable woman for society. Her life has been filled with nice clothes, enough to live on, and a good reputation that comes with being married to a potential bank manager. Nora's early years pass alongside her father and begins cuddles and dependence, before moving on to her current husband, Torvald. In the play we are introduced to Kristine, an old friend of Nora and a character who allows us to witness the way Nora talks about her married life and ultimately shows Nora's dependence on Torvald. Nora says goodbye to Kristine and goes to talk about all the wonders of her family. Kristine announces that she has neither children nor a husband and this is incredulous for Nora...... middle of paper......her head which was nothing more than a doll, someone who would do what she wanted said and a human being without any independence. This made her understand that she is not in love with Torvald and that what she called home is no longer home. She needs to go away and decide her own life, what she wants from it and how she wants to be treated. Indeed, Nora has transformed into a woman of choice and able to make her own decisions regarding her life. She freed herself from Torvald and his “perfect life” and realized that perhaps they had never fallen in love. Nora realizes the possibility that Torvald was never in love with her but the idea that he was. He never had a password in their lives and in that of the children. She had no meaning in her life and at the end of the show she realizes that she needs to educate herself first and then take care of others..
