While living in the roller coaster North Caucasus region of Chechnya; the Chechens have been under the control of the Moscow government for almost a hundred years. But after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Chechen separatists campaigned for independence. This separatist group of people has always resisted and been reluctant to dominate Russia. They created the Chechen National Congress when they were considered the Russian Republic of Chechnya. Unfortunately, the president of Russia refused them the chance to become independent because he said that Chechnya is an essential part for the country. This has led them to create many wars and terrorist acts against surrounding countries and even against the United States. One of the main leaders of the Chechen independence movement is Shamil Basayev. Its unsavory reputation attracted new prospects to the movement, especially young people. He worked with other separatist groups in adjacent areas of the North Caucasus. Basayev's contribution to several deadly terrorist attacks has given him a reputation as a pivotal and stubborn figure in this movement. The United States officially designated him a terrorist in 2003. He died on July 10, 2006 at the age of 41, leaving a name among Chechen terrorist groups. Before his death, Shamil Basayev was the leader of one of the most gruesome and terrifying terrorist attacks in history. After his death it is clear that Chechen separatists are starting to disappear. Even if they are disappearing, the end of the Chechen independence movement will be long, due to the loyal followers who still fight. The most gruesome and terrifying attack conducted by Basayev is known today as t...... middle of paper...... those who were trapped in the fire could have been saved and those who died from their wounds could have been were saved faster by coming to help faster. Furthermore, if they had properly cleared the scene of bystanders and armed civilians, perhaps there would not have been so much chaos and confusion regarding what was happening. Without the confusion, the attack might have ended sooner than it did. Another problem was that Russian military forces were shooting at the building while there were still hostages inside. They may have killed more than just terrorists in the building by shooting in panic. Fortunately, after the crisis, Russia managed to impose its intervention on the security front and correct the flaws that emerged during the attack. They now have stricter laws on terrorism and have continued to improve Russian security to make it stronger and safer for years to come..
