“What? This can't be true,” I said. Before transferring to Ohio University, I was an undergraduate student at Tianjin Normal University majoring in mathematics. My classmate and roommate Xiaolin Zhou, a student who is from Shandong Province, has a higher admission score than me, which can also be called Gaokao score, and the difference between the score is more than one hundred points on seven hundred and fifty points. But the result is that we were in the same university and enjoyed the same educational resource. I was shocked by this reality. To be honest, I thought I was lucky to be born in a municipality. However, when I saw his disappointed face, I realized that the issue of whether the regional protection policy should be used in the Gaokao has become a huge controversy in China. According to the Museum of Learning (2010), “the National Higher Education Entrance Examination, or commonly known as “Gao Kao,” is an academic examination held annually in the People's Republic of Mainland China and is a prerequisite for entry in almost all higher education institutions at the university level” (“Museum of Learning”, 2010). It is also an exam famous for its difficulty and large number of participants. Precisely because of the large number of participants and the vastness of the territory, we have the regional protection policy to protect students in some areas. As shown in the Chronicle of Higher Education (2010), people residing in the four municipalities directly under the central government, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing or in special areas such as Tibet and Xinjiang, can enter a good university with a lower score ("Chronicle of higher education...... middle of the paper...... the first universities just because we don't like our cities more crowded. As a solution, we can make some changes to the policy For example, we can establish a policy that after students graduate, they cannot stay here if they cannot find a job within a year. From what we said above, the regional protection policy should not be used in the Gaokao. because it will lead to some problems such as unfair competition, loss of chances to change the lives of rural students, identity fraud and Gaokao immigration China due to the large number of participants and variety areas. However, we must try our best to make it a fair exam, because every Chinese knows that too many people have already put in too much effort and deserve fairness.
