Survival is a necessity that the individual must know and must be done daily to ensure that humans are able to continue living. There are many people in the world who live well, but many people suffer from deadly diseases, food and the impact of war. In subsequent literature, William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Khald Hosseini's The Kite Runner, William Golding's Lord of the Flies, and Guy de Maupassant's “The Necklace” all show that survival is a key element. Survival is significant to us as human beings; would be shown differently in the four literatures. In Macbeth, there is a push for Macbeth to survive to maintain the launch as long as possible; to survive, Macbeth must find creative ways to continue living. Macbeth decides to kill others like Banquo and Macduff's family because he does not want them to take away his powers, either for prophecy or for revealing that he killed the king. In order not to allow others to take away his power, Macbeth decides to maintain his positions so that it will be more difficult for others to take away his throne. As human beings we are greedy for more than we need; we intend to prove that we are better than others by succeeding them, in every possible way we can dream of. Macbeth attempted to kill Banquo's son to prevent the prophecy from coming true. Furthermore, to succeed others in becoming king of Scotland Macbeth decided to kill King Duncan. After the death, "if [Macbeth] had died an hour before [the event] [Macbeth] might [have] lived a blessed life" (2.6.68-69) is a phrase that Macbeth uses to make himself appear small in so that other individuals would not suspect that he had actually killed the king. Succeeding and killing others are Macbeth's chosen paths... middle of the paper... both had to work very hard to pay off their debt; this shows that it is essential to find a job to earn a living. People have egos that don't want to be disapproved of. We tend to have a desire to be accepted by society because we don't want to seem like an outcast. Mathilde did not want to be “humiliated[ed] by appearing poor” (4). We should instead buy accessories that we are able to afford because life is difficult when we run into major debt. She had the opportunity to “Wear a flower…for ten” (4) but refused, which led to ten years of hard work for her and her husband. It is important to live a lifestyle where we can survive. In the following literature, The Kite Runner, The Necklace, Lord of the Flies and Macbeth showed us that knowing how to survive is significant because if we ultimately know how to survive live we will be able to survive.
