The Battle of PrincetonThe American Revolutionary War was a struggle for independence by the thirteen colonies against the Kingdom of Great Britain, which later became Great Britain, against the newly formed United States. There were several battles, but only a handful were important, including the Battle of Princeton. The Battle of Princeton had been the consequence of an earlier battle, the Battle of Trenton. The importance of the battles was that they gave American soldiers the confidence to achieve victory against the British. It had been another step toward America's triumph for independence. The Battle of Princeton took place on January 3, 1777 in Princeton, New Jersey ("A Five-Point Summary of the Battle of Princeton"). It had been a revenge plan by the English at odds with the Continental Army. General Lord Cornwallis had a retaliatory plan against General George Washington after General Washington's surprise attack on the Hessians at Trenton.
