The aim of this case-based study is to promote health and behavioral changes in the workplace, in order to support a healthier lifestyle. This essay seeks to illustrate the impact of smoking on a patient with CHD (coronary heart disease) and explore the psychological approach to altering the patient's perception of health promotion and the interventions used to facilitate improved quality of health. The author will also review public health legislation on current health and social care provisions and evaluate the role of health models within different promotions in practice. There are numerous definitions of the word health and health promotion, which can be defined by the (WHO) World Health Organization (1984) as “a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being, rather than the absence of disease”. However, it could also be said that “health promotion is the process of enabling people to extend control over the determinants of health and thereby improve their health” (Health Promotion Agency 2008). Baggott (2004) further argues that “public health is fundamentally concerned with community activities aimed at improving health, rather than the treatment of disease in individuals. The author can support these points of this research that health promotion can only be taken into account whether the patient wants to change his lifestyle or is able to change for the better, and only when a person becomes ill the promotion of health has meaning for him and his well-being. It could also be argued that giving a patient a booklet with statistics cannot realistically represent a state of well-being, since the changing demands and expectations cannot always continuously adapt with each change... middle of paper... ...agreement Mr H had to have a plan in place to help him on his journey, through help and a support network designed around his specific needs, which must be measurable to achieve his goals and relevant to his behavior changes, and which is ready to try to quit smoking nowTo conclude; health promotion is simply the vehicle for bringing about behavioral changes in a patient and their lifestyle choice. It also addresses the balance of power through the use of empowerment strategies, causing the patient to make more informed decisions about their health/wellbeing. Using this advocacy model helped Mr. H make a controlled decision to quit smoking for the sake of his health/wellbeing and to obtain ongoing help from a multidisciplinary collaborative team to achieve his goals..
