Pontius Pilate Pontius Pilate was a very insightful book that kept me engaged and interested as I learned about the world Jesus lived in. I read 100% of the book and was very impressed from his reading. One of the ways this book influenced me the most was by opening my eyes to the reality of the world the Gospels speak of. This book helped make the story of Jesus more of a reality than just a biblical story. This book taught me about the world of the Old Testament and brought new things to light about Jesus and His crucifixion. First, I learned how adamant the Jews were about their faith and respecting their laws. Before reading this book, I did not understand the seriousness that Jews put into their faith. One I have always focused on Jesus' role in His death, but when I read about Pontius Pilate's reaction it brought me a whole new view of Jesus' death and resurrection. Pilate knew Jesus was innocent and the book states on page 244 that "Pilate's conscience would not allow him to condemn an innocent man." This reaffirms to me the holiness of Jesus. This man was a Roman who was used to not caring about the Jews and being the dominant race willing to kill people, but Pilate knew he shouldn't have killed Jesus. Pilate saw the love in Jesus' eyes. Jesus and recognized the authority in Jesus. I have always known that Jesus died for us and also for those who killed him, but reading this book made that fact much more real. On page 254, a centurion asks Pilate, "who have we crucified?" it was so obvious that something powerful had happened that evening that even a Roman soldier recognized it. Knowing this, I understood that Jesus did not only die for us in the future, but also for Pilate and those who crucified him. He truly cared and even witnessed her death. Pilate's wife and good friend Cornelius became followers of this man he crucified. Reading about the Romans who converted shows how real the resurrection was because they were so anti-monotheistic, but they saw the truth and followed it. Many times I look at the death of Christ as just a story, but no, reading this book really helped make it a real event in History. The death of Christ affected everyone, including the Romans, involved in His death. Overall, I think this book opened my eyes to many different areas surrounding the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. I learned about the Jewish lifestyle and was able to better understand why Jews did what they did. Seeing this story from the Romans' perspective was truly eye-opening
