IntroductionThis assignment will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of time management and their relationship to stress in the workplace and how stress affects on achieving personal and team goals. I intend to show how good time management can reduce stress, and I will base my findings on the information I have collected and on a questionnaire I wrote for my colleagues, providing examples of both good and bad time management. The report will outline the causes, symptoms and support available for Stress. This will be done by setting SMART goals with the intention of reducing stress and improving productivity through the use of good time and stress management techniques. Main body • Know how to use effective personal time management to achieve team goals. Fig. 1 is taken from Covey (2001) and allows us to divide the tasks into 4 groups, A, B, C and D where A is the most important and urgent and D the least important. I have added the text in red as this allows us to decide the course of action to take on a task, thus promoting good productivity within the team Fig 1Urgency DELEGATE DO IT NOW(Now) B URGENT BUT NOT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT AND URGENTDISCARD OR DELETE DECIDE WHEN URGENT NOR IMPORTANT IMPORTANT BUT NOT URGENT Importance (Results)• e.g. for A - Phone an ambulance when an injured person is unconscious and you are in the center of the card... I could sit down with their manager and make a plan to reduce the causes of stress; this might mean delegating some of the work, taking work away to ease the load, and explaining the help available to get out of the situation. This may be enough to avoid drastic actions, such as taking antidepressants from your GP, sick leave and problems at home. Conclusion Good time management is essential if people rely on you to do their work. Failure of personal goals can lead to failure of others and, ultimately, failure of the company. There are techniques that can be used to decide what is most important (Important/Urgent Matrix) and by setting SMART goals, this is the action plan that helps achieve individual and team goals. We must be aware of how our actions affect others in the company. Poor time management leads to stress, illness and reduced team productivity
