In the novel The Brothers Sisters, we learn a lot about the two brothers Eli and Charlie. Their violent history of professional assassins as a profession leads readers to believe that killing is a part of who they are, and nothing can ever change that. In my opinion, I think Charlie would have a harder time adjusting to living in a peaceful environment and "away from all earthly dangers and horrors" than Eli would. From what I know from reading the book, I learned that Charlie Sister is more actively violent than her brother Eli. I believe this is true because in the book during the early beginnings of the plot, their commander who they worked with for so long gave the brothers a task, and Eli was more hesitant “What if Warms isn't there? “He will be there” “What if he isn't?” 'God damn it, it will be'” (Dewitt. 10). Since this quote shows that the Eli sisters were more reluctant towards their task of killing Hermann, it makes me believe that deep down Eli wants to change the way they live, and Charlie would have a harder time. You could say Eli was more eager to find Warm, while Eli contemplated “what if” scenarios. The possibility of Charlie being the frontman instead of Eli may play a role in why Eli is more resilient than Charlie. Furthermore, the personality that Eli portrays is more that of a caring, soft and tender heart, but these personality traits can be misleading because Eli still participates in the acts of murder. Secondly, I believe that Eli and Charlie cannot move away from the lifestyle they grew up in because; they made many enemies along the way. Hypothetically speaking, what if they successfully opened their store and one of the customers they get was an enemy, or... middle of paper... his children would take over. Therefore, it would be difficult not to be emotionally attached to the business because it has been passed down from generation to generation. Finally, in my opinion, I believe that Eli is willing to do anything for his brother. Even though he didn't want to go on the mission for the commander, but he did it for his brother. Eli went to the extreme measure to protect his brother and himself by killing the commander. “Throwing the blade to the ground, I pressed on his shoulders so that his head fell below the surface of the water” (Dewitt p. 317). This shows that Eli has the killer instinct in him and will do whatever it takes to protect himself and his brother. In conclusion, I believe that Eli and Charlie cannot live the life they want without any danger harming them due to the circumstances of their story and their past..
