Colonialism and globalization mean that Westerners are unable to see the land as belonging to someone else and to consider it a source of pleasure and reconstruction. Westerners who most commonly refer to those who are of European descent see the island of Jamaica as exotic, a place of wonder and discovery, which is why they have decided to settle in hopes of exploring this unknown territory to find adventures just as described by Edward Said in Latent and Manifest Orientalism.
