Topic > Analyzing Aeteros, god of the wanderers and the lost

Aeteros, god of the wanderers and the lost watches over and protects lost mortals and lost souls. In this sense “lost” means both physically lost and the philosophical sense of being lost in life. For men who find themselves at a crossroads in life and have no idea which direction to go, and for the soldier lost on his journey home from foreign lands, Aetero watches over and protects. Aeteros also has some power in the mortal afterlife; for the eternal souls who were lost on their journey to Charon and the River Styx, Aetero protected the souls and delivered them directly to Charon. Aetero serves as a guide and a god to turn to for protection in the most desperate moments and as help for the most desperate souls. Aetero is depicted as a solitary or hermit god. In his photos he is always alone and also portrays the exact opposite of the standard “god” image. Aetero is not naked with bulging muscles in his statues and artwork, Aetero is generally covered by a cloak or other article of clothing. This type of imagery serves to further the concept of Aetero as his lost self, which is why he cares so deeply about lost mortals. His artwork is rare, really only seen in his temples because Aeteros is a nearly forgotten god, only thought of when he is most needed by living mortals. Aeteros' artwork focuses heavily on him being a solitary god, and this focus on solidarity contributes in many ways to how Aeteros is worshiped. An example of this are processions; processions for Aetero are most commonly quiet and involve only a small number of people because Aetero was not usually involved with other gods in Roman mythology, so the cult of Aetero reflects his sol... middle of paper... .all the animal in the sacrifices and would also have kept track of all the votives and offerings left in the temple for Aetero. While the older "master" priest recites the prayers, he leads the procession towards the grave sites and it is he who organizes private ceremonies at the request of the families. Aetero is a quiet and solitary god, in some ways lost in his divinity. In return he watches over all lost mortals and lost souls and protects them on their journey. The entire cult of Aeteros is centered around solidarity and modesty. The processions are quiet, the ceremonies and temples are small and modest, and the only public ceremony is small and brief. Their priests also live a solitary life under the word of Aeteros. Aetero, an almost forgotten god, and Aetero is a god who protects those who find themselves in the most vulnerable and desperate moments of life and death.
