Jacqueline Kennedy is probably best known for her style, love of art and history, and family values. She never sought to be First Lady, but she took on the role she needed. At times people seemed more interested in her than in the president himself. Jackie was more attractive than previous First Ladies. It was original and dignified. She helped increase her husband's popularity. She did what was asked of her while maintaining who she was. She was an inspiration to women everywhere. She will always be remembered for being a powerful woman. She knew she wasn't classic First Lady material. “My problem is that I'm an outsider. And that is a very difficult thing to experience in American life” (Perry 53). She knew who she was and she went for it. He didn't try to change to what people wanted him to be. A lot of people try to change the image that people want them to have, but she doesn't do that. Family was the most important thing to Jackie. “If you're having a hard time raising your kids, I don't think anything else you do well matters much” (Karen 37). She set a standard for mothers everywhere. “I will be a wife and mother first, then First Lady” (Klein 98). All that mattered to her was being family. He understood that no matter how important a position was, family came first and always would. “Children have been a wonderful gift to me and I am grateful to have seen our world through their eyes once again. They restore my faith in the family's future” (Anderson, 176). His children were his world; everything he did was for them. She tried her best to be a perfect mother. He also enjoyed his marriage. “Jacqueline wore a pearl choker and a diamond bracelet that was a gift from the groom” (Bowles 63). She did it simply and very carefully… in the middle of paper… it would have been very difficult to tell her what to do. When someone is so comfortable with who they are, you can't help but admire them. I am who I am and no one will ever be able to change that. I'm above trivial ways of trying to fit in to please people. He had everything he wanted, his family and everything else didn't matter. No one would ever be able to mold her into what they want. She didn't speak out, but she didn't let people use her. Isn't that what makes heroism? He was a person who would never do something just because society told him to. Isn't this what also makes progress possible? There are few ways in which progress can only be made by those who are willing to be different and not conform to society. Maybe that's what everyone liked about her, the fact that she couldn't be manipulated. She was always aware of what was happening, but it never made her change.
