Infants and toddlers have the fastest rate of development compared to other developmental stage categories, such as preschoolers, school-age children, adolescents, and so on. In the early years, significant improvements are noted in their physical, psychosocial and cognitive development. First, their motor skills improve dramatically during the first few years. Second, their developmental milestone during the sensorimotor stage. Third, health risks commonly associated with infants/toddlers. Cognitive, linguistic, social and physical are three areas in which a child can develop. From head to toe, babies begin to develop. The child interacts with human faces and voices to develop motor skills and other aspects of growth. When a child is absent in his social life activities, this can mean problems with hearing, vision and physical movement. Children should be able to understand adult language and be able to speak it afterwards, but you cannot tell them what to say or feel. Crying is an important means of communication for babies. Newborns have different crying styles, and many mothers are able to differentiate what each cry indicates (UMM, 2013). Cognitive Aspect Motor skills are an important aspect of development as an infant/child grows. First, newborns exhibit many types of reflex actions in the first few months after birth. Secondly, they become more active/mobile between about six and nine months. Thirdly, around nine months babies are able to balance better, while some are already walking. First, children's reflexes are also called primitive reflexes. There are many types of reflexes, such as Babinski, moro, palmar grip, positioning, plantar, rooting and sucking, stepping and walking and neck tonic rest......middle of paper......surrounding newborns problem . Child abuse can be physical, psychological or sexual. Physical abuse typically occurs in times of great stress. Major risk factors for child abuse include: domestic violence, alcoholism, poor education, single parenthood, and drug abuse (Medline Plus, 2014). Black eyes, unusual broken bones, choking marks around the neck, marks around the wrist, human bite marks, eyelash marks, unexplained loss of consciousness in newborns, burn marks can all be signs of abuse. Infants/toddlers go through various developmental stages faster than other age groups. Physical, psychosocial and cognitive development is significantly evident as they continue to grow. First, their motor skills improve dramatically. Second, the changes that occur when they experience the sensorimotor phase. Third, major health concerns for infants/toddlers.
