Children learn through observational learning; this means they see someone they admire do something and then they do it. When my parents taught me to brush my teeth, they used their right hand to hold the toothbrush. My right hand isn't as precise as my left. Some parents unknowingly force their children to use their right hand because they do it themselves. Teachers may sometimes not realize it, but they may also force a student to write with their right hand. This is most popular in the preschool and kindergarten years. An Indiana student says her "fourth grade teacher, in an attempt to 'cure' my left-handedness, forced me to use my right hand to do all my schoolwork.
