What student wouldn't want to write a huge paper in one hour instead of four hours? Adderal is a stimulant that improves cognitive abilities; according to Danielle Bickelmann, Susie Lomelino, "[it] is a widely recognized drug that increases attention, concentration, and overall cognitive performance, while decreasing fatigue, but it is also a drug that is widely abused on college campuses" (Highly Addictive Nature of Prescription 1). “Adderall is a synthetic drug that contains a combination of amphetamine salts. About 72.7% of Adderall is lisdexamfetamine (Vyanse) and the remainder is levoamphetamine” (Moore 90). Adderall is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) (Adderall 1). Students who do not suffer from ADHD or ADD have admitted to taking the drug to improve their study or work process (Desantis, Hane 32). Not being distracted while studying or writing a paper seems like an amazing opportunity, but what students don't understand are the dangers of abusing a stimulant like Adderall. Students who do not have ADHD or ADD and use Adderall depend on a pill to get a task done. Adderall abuse can lead to addiction problems. Richard Fee, a young college student, was smart, athletic, and popular, but ultimately felt like he wasn't doing as well as he should with his college classes. Even though he was doing his best with the lessons, he felt it wasn't enough. Richard Fee decided to take an Adderall pill from one of his friends during an exam period. After taking that first pill, Richard Fee felt he needed more. He finally went to his doctor to get his, and even though he didn't have ADD or ADHD, Richard Fee was given... half the paper... also unfair to students who can't afford it. purchase it, and towards students who choose not to abuse it. Those have to work harder and take more time to study or write an article. They are working to reach their goal, but students taking Adderall are taking the easy way out. It is difficult to ban the use of Adderall, but schools should reiterate that abusing the drug is the wrong thing to do. Society also plays an important role for students. Sometimes students feel so pressured to do well in school that they feel they have no choice but to turn to Adderall. Students need to find a way to relax when they work hard, instead of engaging in substance. Adderall is not a bad stimulant; it has helped many children who suffer from ADD or ADHD, but students who do not suffer from ADD or ADHD can have many serious side effects due to overusing it.
