Topic > Influence of Rap Music - 704

In recent years hip hop and rap artists have used their music to express their views, opinions and feelings in their songs. From the artist's lyrics someone will understand what the artist is talking about because either he has done the same things or is having the same problem. The First Amendment to the Constitution is freedom of speech and that's what hip hop artists are doing. One of hip hop music's most significant positive influences is that an entire segment of the population has developed a way to artistically relate their experience to the world. Much of the style and language used was determined by the life and culture of the artists. Since most hip hop artists were of African descent, much of the music is very powerful. It can control people's emotions and change the way they act. What people see in music videos or lyrics can influence what they do, especially teenagers. One of the musical genres, hip-hop, has caused a lot of discussion since its appearance at the end of the 20th century. The reason is that the lyrics of some hip-hop songs include violence, sex, foul language, drugs and alcohol use. Unfortunately, teenagers are the number one fans of this music. Most parents worry about these negative influences of hip-hop and rap on teenagers who are still too young to choose what is right or wrong. They, as well as educators, must control or even stop this music. I firmly believe that hip-hop and rap music has many dangerous effects on today's youth, especially violence, sex and nastiness. Some of them don't have a major role model in their life, so they look up to a rap or hip-hop artist. When a role model influences adolescents, they tend to do and say the same things that person does. In some ways, this could have a negative impact on young people. For example, one of the rap groups, NWA, sang a song, “F_ _k the Police” in 1988. This song expressed hatred and violence towards the police. The words: "Defeat the police, when I'm done, it'll be a bloodbath, of cops dying in Los Angeles, insert my clip, it all depends on the size of the gun." This song depicted images of gangs, guns and violence, yet it became very popular. These violent lyrics in songs can push some teenagers to start fights and even kill others. Teens can behave as violently as their role model by listening and singing along to the lyrics. It tends to send harmful messages to its listeners and does not lead to moral lives. Conclusion: Hip hop music has influenced world culture by featuring its punchy lyrics with an upbeat musical beat that provides great entertainment, but can send inappropriate messages about violence and the treatment of people.
