Mary Wollstonecraft's essay “A Vindication of Women's Rights” constantly compares men and women. His comparisons range from their physical nature to their intelligence, and even the education each sex receives. Wollstonecraft states: "In the government of the physical world it is observable that the woman in strength is, in general, inferior to the male." .”(line 1.35-37) to demonstrate that women are inferior to men in physicality, and in a number of areas throughout the essay, but through it all she expresses her concerns about women's rights and how well deserved they are . Throughout the history of humanity there has been an evident prejudice against men. Men have always been considered superior to women, both physically and intellectually. When Wollstonecraft says, “…I presume that rational men will excuse me if I endeavor to persuade them [women] to become more masculine and respectable.” (lines 1.81-83) she tells her classmates to fight for equality by flattering the opposite sex. Her statement tells women that to get what they want [equality] they must change their ways and habits. It's kind of like: if you can't beat them, join them. There's only one thing that holds women back from their full potential: men. Wollstonecraft states: "...men who, regarding women rather as women than as human creatures, have been more anxious to make them seductive lovers than affectionate wives and rational mothers..." (lines 1.17-19) Regardless of what they do women, there will always be men who continue to degrade and discourage rational, intelligent and free-thinking women. Human beings have existed for thousands of years, yet men continue to degrade themselves… middle of the paper… the heart should be clean… Women should strive to purify their hearts…” (lines 1.129- 132) Wollstonecraft felt that women should ignore and rid themselves of all the things that men had told them and taught them. Women need to be themselves and not conform to anyone's rules. Wollstonecraft wants women to be strong, defend their honor and innocence, and learn to think rationally again. He says, “Weakness [in women] may excite tenderness and gratify the arrogant pride of man…” (lines 1.142-143) and “…the woman who strengthens her body and exercises her mind, managing her family and practicing various practices, she will become the friend, and not the humble dependent of her husband…” (lines 1.145-147) Rational and independent thinking will help women in their striving for equality, and Wollstonecraft was one excellent example..
